Xo from yr Bezzie Mates.
Greetings friends, fans and family of your Bezzie Mates,
How’s it feel for you so far? Feeling the love? Well from our end things are going just swimmingly! We have begun the recording of our next album and based on what’s being laid down it’s going to be a banger. And you can trust our opinion as we’re feeling it first hand. The good vibes are omnipresent in laying the bed tracks and we’ve been just giddy with excitement playing wicked deadly beats with Maestro Heavy Kevvy at the drum helm. What more can be said? Kevin is a place on earth and heaven is a rhythm section in harmony ????
We’d also like to remind you of some shows coming up really soon (Eastern U.S. seaboard peeps please take note!). Here they are as follows:
Jan 22nd in Allston, MA at Great Scott.
Jan 23rd in Providence, RI at the Columbus Theatre.
Jan 24th in Brooklyn, NY at Rough Trade.
Jan 25th in Philadelphia, PA at Black Box.
Jan 26th in Camden City, CT at Cafe Nine.
Jan 27th in Winooski, VT at the Monkey House.
So all that being said, yr Bezzie Mates would like to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015!
Love and hugs,
After 7 years our beloved guitar player Richard White has decided not to tour anymore. You can still expect to hear his virtuosic playing on our albums but sadly, you will not see him on stage with us much anymore. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Richard from the bottom of our hearts for all the dedicated years of performing with us. Also, Richard will be taking on a role as a mastering engineer at Breakglass so if anyone out there ever needs an album mastered, email Breakglass and we can hook you up with him.
Thanks Rich! We will miss you and your speed-wash. Xo from Oggy, Jack and Kevvy.
We’re headed to South by Southwest (SXSW)!
Check out our shows in the tour section.

We have a new album coming out April 2 on Jagjaguwar.
It’s called ‘Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO’.
The Besnard Lakes’ Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO had its humble beginnings in mid-2011 and was completed over the course of a year. Ever mindful and attentive to the most subtle and nuanced details, founding band members Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas produced, recorded and mixed at the stalwart Breakglass Studios in Montreal. Eventually mastered by the renowned Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, this fourth album by The Besnard Lakes’ features heavyweight additions by Moonface’s Spencer Krug and Mike Bigelow, The Barr Brothers’ Sarah Page, the always-enchanting Monica Guenter and the return of Fifth String Liberation Singers’ Choir.
The story of the album unfolds its introspection on the endurance of the human spirit during prophetic times as told by a spy or two, maybe more. Each of the eight tracks on the album takes off, coasts, and lands smoothly, with a jubilant slowburn of its own momentum for the benefit of the larger picture. The Besnard Lakes create a distinct and dreamy headspace, an enigmatic and somehow familiar placelessness. It happens in such a way that both the close and casual listener find themselves immersed in the generous sonic vision, one moment as timeless as the next.
We’re very proud to offer a very special edition repress of our first album “Volume I.”
This release is limited to 600 copies and is signed by Olga and Jace on the inner LP sleeve and numbered on the jacket. This deluxe package is double gatefold and has been hit with a UV gloss. Once these are gone, they are gone, so get yours now while quantities still last.
You can get it on our store.
It is also available in Montreal at Phonopolis and L’Oblique.
We wrote music for Welcome to Pine Point, a multimedia documentary that combines video footage, artwork, photographs and music on a web interface.
The songs we contributed will be available via 12″ EP on september 22. It will be available at our upcoming tour dates and by mail order from JagJaguwar.
More info in the Music section
We wrote music for Sympathy for Delicious, Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut. It will be released on June 7th on Lakeshore records.
It was recorded partially by Jace at Breakglass Studios in Montreal, and partially by Mike over a period of two years in Regina, Canada. In August of 2008, Mike flew to Montreal armed only with a 12-string Fender Coronado and over thirty different recordings of song ideas and loose structures. Jace helped to organize, edit and arrange the album, adding extra instrumentation and finally, vocals. In November 2008, they mixed the album at Breakglass. The final product digs into the duo’s love of layering sounds and instruments, and using the studio as a way to achieve it.
Drawing on Mike and Jace’s love of the pop song and long repetitive drones, the album spans the distance between the concise pop song structure of Francoise Hardy and the psychedelic organ drones of Broadcast. Guests include Jace’s wife and Besnard Lakes band mate, Olga Goreas, Max Henry (Suuns, Young Galaxy) and Jonathan Cummins’ 1965 Fender Jazzmaster.
China dates added!
Mar 17 – Hong Kong @ Hidden Agenda
Mar 18 – Shanghai @ Yuyintang
Mar 19 – Beijing @ Mao Livehouse
Check Tour section for all tour dates.
Check out the new video for And This Is What We Call Progress!
It was shot by the great people over at For No One
Somewhere in the two thousand-mile-journey between the capital of Saskatchewan and downtown Montreal exists a new body of music called The Soft Province. It’s the fruit of Jace’s collaboration with longtime friend Michael Gardiner, a visual artist, musician and recording engineer living in Western Canada. Their first album comes out on February 22, 2011 on Three Ring Records.
The single is already available to buy on iTunes
The Besnard Lakes have finished the music score for Quebec-produced film “Memories Corner”. Directed by Audrey Fouché, the film is set in Japan and follows the story of a young French journalist who looks into the lives of earthquake survivors. The film’s score serves as an accompaniment to Japan’s incredible geographical and spiritual landscape.
More information on the film can be found here
We have completed work for the soundtrack of an NFB-produced interactive website about Pine Point – a town in the North West Territories that was literally removed from Canada’s map in the late 80’s. You can check it out here
Here are some pictures from the website.
Last July Jace and Olga went on a journey down the South Nahanni River along with musician/songwriter Shad, documentarian Kevin McMahon and film and sound crew. The results are to be aired this year sometime on Discovery Canada as a part of a series called “The National Parks Project”, celebrating 100 years of Canada’s National Parks.
